Check the Domain Rating of any website in seconds. Live data from Ahrefs, free, no signup.

Any domain or URL, one at a time

How this works

  • Live from Ahrefs. We ask Ahrefs' Domain Rating API for the domain you enter and show the number it returns.
  • One domain at a time. It's built for checking your own site, a competitor, or a directory before you submit to it, not for bulk lists.
  • What the number means. Each result comes with what that DR lets you rank for, using the same ranges as our guide to a good Domain Rating.

What is Domain Rating?

Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' score for the strength of a website's backlink profile, from 0 to 100. The scale is logarithmic, so climbing from DR 20 to DR 30 takes far more than climbing from 0 to 10. What moves it most is how many unique sites link to you with dofollow links, and how strong those sites are themselves. Read the full definition.

What is a good DR?

  • DR 0 to 10. A brand new domain with almost no backlink profile. You can rank for long-tail keywords nobody else targets, and not much more.
  • DR 10 to 20. A handful of links. You can compete on low-volume keywords with weak competition. This is where most indie products sit for months.
  • DR 20 to 35. Real link building shows. Google starts taking your pages seriously, and you can outrank low-effort competitors on medium-volume keywords.
  • DR 35 to 50. Rare for indie tools without a content team. You can chase competitive keywords with the right on-page work.
  • DR 50+. A real authority asset. You can rank for almost any keyword in your space with a decent page.

The honest benchmark is the sites already ranking for the keyword you want. If they're all DR 40+, that's the range you need. If they're DR 15 and you're DR 20, you're already ahead.

How to increase your DR

DR goes up when new, credible sites link to you with dofollow links. For a new product, the quickest first links are startup directories: every directory that lists you with a dofollow link adds a referring domain.

Auto Launch submits your product to 30, 50 or 100 hand picked directories for you, and your site reaches DR 10, 15 or 20 by tier, or your money back. Rather do it yourself? The free directory roadmap ranks every directory by DR.

Questions

How do I check my Domain Rating?

Type your domain in the box above and press Check DR. You get your Domain Rating from Ahrefs in a second or two, free and without an account.

Is this DR checker free?

Yes. There's no signup and nothing to pay. Checks run one domain at a time, with a daily limit per visitor to keep it fair.

Where does the DR come from?

From Ahrefs. Domain Rating is Ahrefs' own metric, and we get it from their Domain Rating API when you check a domain.

Why is my DR 0?

Usually because Ahrefs hasn't found dofollow links to your site from sites it counts yet. That's normal for a new domain. A handful of listings on credible directories is often enough to get it moving.

What's the difference between DR and DA?

DR is Ahrefs' score and DA (Domain Authority) is Moz's. Both rate backlink strength from 0 to 100, but they're calculated differently, so the same site usually gets two different numbers. Compare DR with DR and DA with DA.

How can I increase my DR?

Get more unique, credible sites to link to you with dofollow links. Directories are the fastest start for a new product. Auto Launch submits yours to 30, 50 or 100 hand picked directories, and your site reaches DR 10, 15 or 20 by tier, or your money back.
